This year Warwick SHS students from Years 9 and 10 were invited to participate in a 3 day Try-A-Trade program at Balga TAFE. The program is designed as a first step, for those who demonstrate an interest, into a career in building and construction and gives students a taste of different trade areas, to allow them to make more informed choices.
Try-A-Trade exposes students to a real trade training environment, with courses coordinated and delivered by specialist trade training organisations and trade qualified lecturers. Our students have been given the opportunity to try the wet trades of plastering, tiling and bricklaying. Along with the trade tasting, they also have the added bonus of being exposed to an adult learning environment at our local TAFE. Warwick SHS will be participating in the Try-A-Trade program in term 2 and term 4 of 2020.
Did you know?
95% of the students that train in these particular trades will find work upon completing a pre apprenticeship course. Currently there is a skills shortage in these particular trades. Industry is also seeking females for these trades and Warwick SHS was lucky to have two female students attend. Check out the photos and video of the students first day.
