2019 marked Warwick SHS’s fifth appearance at the Joondalup Wanneroo Relay for Life entering two teams of combined students and staff, Warwick Racers and Warwick Walkers. After a moving opening ceremony and first lap completed by cancer survivors and their carers the teams were off, with the Racers setting a fast pace to try keep their friendly rivals the Bobby Dazzlers behind them in the lap count and the Walkers lapping up the sights as they made their way around the track.
This year we had a very motivated group of staff and students who worked tirelessly within their teams through hot, cold, a plague of flies, pain, discomfort and suffering to keep the batons moving for the 24 hours to raise money for the Cancer Council of WA. The Racers ran any impressive 762 laps over the duration of the relay and while the Bobby Dazzlers pipped them at the post by 13 laps, they acknowledged Warwick SHS for the kindness and camaraderie they bring to the event and the wider community. We are immensely proud of the effort, dedication and conduct displayed by students and staff at the Relay for Life and are already planning how we go one better in 2020!
