In Your Head 2020

On Thursday 3 September, a fabulous group of Year 9 students attended the ‘In Your Head 2020’ youth mental health forum run by zero2hero. There were 700 students from more than 40 schools at the Perth Convention Centre – appropriately socially distanced, of course!

We were welcomed with a moving ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ by the Wesley College Moorditj Mob. Particularly relevant in 2020, students listened to powerful keynote speakers discuss various aspects of mental health, some via online platforms, and engaged in breakout sessions including ‘Social Media and Mental Health’, ‘Peak Performance in Sport’, and “90s Hip-Hop Dance”. The messages that resonated with our students were ‘fall down 7 times, get up 8’ and ‘change your thinking from ‘have to’ to ‘get to’ i.e. I ‘get to’ go to sport training.

We all emerged with an increased awareness of mental health issues and how to support ourselves and our friends.
